Because Triple is a Word That Should Apply to Baseball Hits, Not Chins

The question to which the title of this blog belongs as an answer is: "Why would I go on a diet?"

Other possible questions could also apply: "Why count calories?" "Why cut so drastically back on the sweets I love so much?" and "Why would I want to get rid of my gloriously vast and pasty gut?"

So yes, I'm starting to manage my diet and health and weight more. I started Monday, but really streamlined on Wednesday when my awesome wife found a website for me that helps keep track of diet and exercise.

First, you enter in your current weight and data, then choose goals. For example, my goals are to exercise for 25 minutes, 5 times a week, for a weekly goal of 1330 calories burned. THen I plan to only consume 2210 calories a day, meaning that with both goals combined, I'd lose 1.5 lbs. a week.

The website tracks what you eat based on your input (and honesty). Basically, you enter in what you eat for each meal and snack, and it has a big database to help you find the exact brand or recipe (though homemade things are harder to find, so I usually just go ingredient by ingredient). Then it tracks calories, carbs, fat and protein.

You also put in how much exercise you do per day, and it tells you how many calories you "earn." So I exercised 25 minutes today by walking, burning 208 calories, meaning I earned those extra "208 calories" to eat. It all works out somehow.

Anyway, the whole point is to drop the fat. I have no illusions about becoming really lean or muscular- but when I stepped on the scale at Mom and Dad's a couple of weeks ago and saw the numbers "290" flashing back at me, I decided it was time for a change.

So it's not going to be a lot of fun, especially as my body gets used to consuming lower numbers of calories and food each day, but I'm sure it's going to be worth it.

If it doesn't work, there's another diet plan I found:

Way to go, Bro! I know that was the plan when Mom and Dad tried to do this Biggest Loser of the Family thing, but sadly, I began to lose track (plus, with all the vacations/trips I took this summer, it was really hard to have any kind of consistency)- it's still a good idea, and I like the idea of a website that helps you figure it all out. I'm still hoping to get back on track with controlling better the amounts of what I eat (and hopefully, what I eat as well) and improving my exercise regime...

maybe you could post or e-mail that website so that some of the rest of us can follow your lead.

Good luck! And let me know if there is anything I can do (i.e. eat more sweets on your behalf, etc... wait... maybe that won't work ;)

love ya!

works wonders, I hear!

Babe- congrats on working so diligently. As I've told you, I think the first step is to become aware of what you are eating and try eating better and less...and I can see you trying to do that.

Good job this week...ane maybe one day I can get up early again to go walking (through the spider webs) with you!
