Talk About Ups and Downs
This last weekend was a lot of fun. At the beginning, anyways.
Friday found me driving to St. Louis with Beckie, Kirsti, and Kyle to meet up with the others (Emily, Joe, Elise, Sarah) in St. Louis for Potter Party 07 (i.e. the release of book 7). We checked into a nice hotel (with some interesting aromas), went to Houlihans for dinner, then hit up a little HP street fair near Emily and Joe's house. We only had time to watch the costume contest- best costume of the night (besides Kirsti as Bellatrix and Sarah as Luna and Emily as Trelawney) was a cute little baby dressed up like a mandrake.
Then we went to Borders, where we waited for a long time on thin carpet covering a hard floor reading various and sundry magazines and books while we waited to get our copies of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
We finally did, and back at the hotel we had a little reading party. People went to bed after the first few chapters, but as soon as we woke up we were all reading again. As we left St. Louis, I was in the lead- that wouldn't last for long.
I had to work all the rest of the day so everyone passed me by miles (or pages, as the case may be).
Official Results (I think) of who finished Book 7 first:
1) Emily
2) Beckie
3) Kirsti
4) Elise
5) Sarah
6) Me (I finished around 6:00 yesterday evening)
I have yet to talk to anyone about their opinions besides Kirsti, but I get the feeling everyone was pleased.
For my opinions and a memorial to those who died in the book, go to my nerd blog.
The big downer of the weekend is that for inexplicable reasons my right wrist started hurting Saturday morning. By Saturday night it hurt a lot and it kept me up a lot overnight. Sunday it was all but useless, and Monday I called in to work because I didn't want to aggravate it. It still hurts, but not as much.
The bigger downer than that is that Tamara is out of town until Wednesday evening. It's for a good reason- she's picking up her sister so she can be at the wedding. But I still miss her...and wedding planning is easier in person rather than over the phone.
Days left until Hitchin' Time: 10
